I have noticed a trend in kitchen cabinets. Have you noticed anything new or maybe you've noticed something missing? Upper cabinets are disappearing. Mainly, I have noticed this trend in smaller, cottage kitchens. It's kind of ironic that the smaller kitchens are decreasing the amount of storage but I do believe it makes the space look larger. Also, in most cases, the upper cabinets are replaced with open shelving. This means you can no longer hide the mess behind the cabinet doors. Another positive is that your kitchenware is easier to see, use and get to! Here are some of my favorite looks...
Do you like the look of no upper cabinets in the kitchen?

That scares me!!! I don't think I could let mine go!!! Unless I had a boat load of lower ones to hide everything in!!!
I do love the look, but the practical side of me is screaming "Nooooo! You're a slob!"
I love the look, but along with the fact that I couldn't keep them looking neat, I can't imagine how dirty things would get. Just the grease that somehow makes it's way onto things. Ewwww.
Nice pictures! I'm too disorganized to have no upper cabinets!
I love it and we did that when we gutted our kitchen. We kept upper cabinets on one side to store food and such then we took the ones on the sink/dw wall and did open shelving. It makes it so much easier to put things away. I love it.
I hate dust and dusting so much that I couldn't do it - and i would be freaking out if everything looked disorganized especially when I had company over - I am wierd like that. But I like how it looks in other peoples kitchens.
For our new kitchen I am leaning heavily on white cabinets, marble countertops and white subway tile back splash - but having 1 or 2 cabinet doors w/ glass doors so that my colored fiestware dishes show through to add color to the kitchen.
It feels like part of the trend towards minimalism that's pervading everything these days. I like the look but doubt its practicality. Open shelves are pretty but stuff can fall or just get dustier.
I adore WHITE and BRIGHT. I adore open and sweet. My kitchen is ugly and old and dark... but I sure like to drool. :)
I love the look, but I need a place for all my crap!!! ;) ;)
I LOVE the look, and covet a pantry to hold everything behind only one door and a beautiful kitchen with only lower cabinets and marble countertops. Someday.
I LOVE the look of no cabinets! I actually considered it a couple of years ago, but was told it was a dumb idea ("Why wouldn't you want CABINETS?! Who doesn't want CABINETS?!") Ahem. Me. =)
You found some awesome examples, too! love it! Thanks.
I do! I love it actually. It's a brave move but it sure looks great. And it would be so convenient to have everything where you can see it, especially when someone else empties the dishwasher :)
I love the look...but with 2 dogs and a cat....my plates would be completely hairy!!! So the practical side of me screams out for upper cabinets!!!
I heart that look, it's so open and airy, like a bistro. But I know myself. No one wants to look at my mass collection of 7/11 slurpee cups for my hubs protein shakes. Therefore, I need uppers. Plus, I like glass fronts too. :-) Beautiful inspiration photos !
I just moved into a house with a lot of open shelving for the first time and I LOVE IT. We'll be redoing the kitchen, but I'm definitely going to include at least some open shelving. The nice part is, I have so many pretty pieces (to me, anyway) that I never get to use, so this way I get to see them all the time.

I like the look but not the reality of it. I think cabinets are great to put and store any thing..and you dont' want to see and chaos of it all!
I love it, but I would be wary of open shelving right by the cooktop as in one of the top photos—because the splattered grease and steam remnants all over the dishes all the time would give me a heart attack, since we know that dirty dishes on display is even worse.
I do love the look of open shelving in the kitchen but I know it wouldn't be practical for me. I need to hide stuff behind closed doors.
