I'm Work'n It!!

Yes, my friends, I am still trying to "work" my dining room.  I am completely lacking inspiration and ideas.  So, I decided to take a deep breathe and video my HomeGoods shopping experience. Thanks to Melissa @The Inspired Room I have $200 to spend. You would think this would be easy?? I walked out with nada.  I am going back at the end of the week but first I need a plan.

Well, if the video did not put you to sleep and you are still with me, here are some images of dining rooms from my idea folder. My dining room is the last picture.

Christy- you have an amazing starting point. I was going to say you love slipcovered chairs and a long table..but you have those. The pictures all have a common theme of slipped chairs, distressed long farm tables and then some bold statement on the wall.
Why not- distress your table a bit..maybe sand the legs a bit and bang them up then strip the top and distress it a bit. Then you have a nice sideboard- you could leave it as is or distress it or even paint it so it is not so matchy matchy.
Then I would go over to My Sweet Savanna for her tutorial on how she made the large sign and use that to create a sign you'd like for over the sideboard..something that means something to you. Heck if you were closer I'd have my artist sister whip you up one..
Can't wait to see what you do..

You have a great canvas as a startig point. Very nice dining room. You should check and ikea for your accessories, artwork, and lighting. They are very resonable. Though I wouldn't buy much furniture there.

I think you have a fabulous blank canvas. You're going to have a blast, and it seems like you have an idea of which direction you want to go in!!! :)

it's exciting to see what you wind up doing with it. I love the first photo w/ the big distressed picture on the wall. I agree w/ tammy's comment on checking out My sweet savannah's wall hanging she made from Ballard Design's wall plaque. My husband is actually making me one, but we are putting an Irish store's name on it rather then a french one. Go shopping girl!!!!!!

Your space is so amazing...I can't wait to see what you come up with! Just a new paint color and a fun light will make a huge difference...add in some curtains and a few odds and ends and it'll all be framed up perfectly with that divine arched entry!

Your space looks great so far. I think all you need are accessories. A huge mirror would look great on that empty wall. And you could put matching shelves or something on either side. And a vintage sign or a group of vintage pictures above the buffet. Put some flowers on the buffet and dress up the table with a long centerpiece, like a long wooden bowl filled with fruit or something or a long table runner with candlesticks and such placed along it. Then, just get some great curtains to hang on that window. Ikea has some great ones for great deals right now. I'm excited to see how it turns out. Good luck!

HAHAHA I can't believe you recorded yourself shopping - I get weird looks just when I stop to take cellphone pictures.

That $100 mirrored pieces was so pretty! At $200 I would have run from the chairs too!

I am highly biased but think you should get a mirror for the dining room. I love mirrors and Home Goods has such affordable, beautiful ones :)

That happens to me all of time. When I have cash in hand ready to spend on something for the house - I can't find anything I like. When I don't have cash in hand or time to shop - the perfect item throws itself at me from across the store. Why is that?
