NO GIRLS ALLOWED and a FORT!!

why do 7 year olds always have to pose?

It started with these hand written notes, you know the ones with backwards letters and misspelled words. Yes, I started to find those kinds of notes taped to the outside of Max's door. It seemed everyday he needed to announce something; Open, Closed, No Mommy, No Dogs, etc., etc.

So this weekend, while he was out of town, I painted his door with a couple coats of chalkboard paint.  I just taped off 4-inches around the border, lightly sanded with a sanding sponge and rolled on 4 coats.  I love that every morning after he has left for school, I will pass by his room and he has left some kind of sweet note for me.  I also love the fact that he is spelling on his own, writing and communicating. This is what us mothers call a win-win.

I decided to keep going with the "boys only" theme.  I bought this wire curtain rod from Ikea and these painters drop clothes from Home Depot. I did not even hem them. I just folded them over and clipped.  I am just lazy like that...

Yes, they need to be ironed. Yes, I tried but drop clothes are near impossible to iron. So it is, what I like to call, "good enough".

This is what his room looked like tonight before bed...

He told me that Mommy's would "Always be Allowed".
XOXO

*I recommend using light-weight fabrics for this wire rod.  My drop clothes are almost too heavy.

@Holly It's from Pottery barn: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/fisherman-sconce/?pkey=dceiling-wall-lighting

The only problem with not "hard-wiring" this light, the on/off switch is near the plug (close to the floor) so it can't be turned off while on the top bunk. Duh! Always something??!!

XOXO

That is SO cool! I swear, I think the note writing must be a boy thing ... I had three girls and never ran into it until Bebe Boy James came along!

How awesome that we had the same idea. Except we have a daughter and it's a princess bed, and the curtains are lace. Same hardware and same confit though.

Your kiddo looks super happy. Awesome idea, thanks for blogging it!

Love this! All I need to do is get pink material and my girls will have a "castle!" :) Did you use 2 Ikea wire curtains rods or 1? Thanks for sharing!

Love it! But thinking of doing it for my 7 year old daughter. Did you have to buy an extra piece and the clips. The website shows only "Complete set with hardware and curtain wire; ready to mount to wall or ceiling." But not sure what the complete set entails and it looks like you have more than this. Thanks for your help!! Danette

So smart! My daughter has started writing notes on post-its and sticking it on all the door in the house. She thinks everyone will follow what's on her notes. Maybe she needs a door chalk board! Great idea!

Can you tell me how many of those Ikea curtain wires you had to buy? I see three silver pieces in your photo but not quite sure what it is that I'm looking at as far as which curtain wires (the one in the link plus there is also a corner piece linked below the image on Ikeas page) thanks! Wonderful idea! My youngest would LOVE this! :)

Found this via Pinterest. Love it! I've been looking for a way to hang the curtains around my daughter's bed for a canopy-ish look-this is perfect! Thanks for your awesomeness :)
