An Amazing Photographer and Our Family Photos

I hate to have my picture taken. I would rather get a shot from the doctor than a shot from the camera.  In fact, I have never allowed a photo of me to be taken with my family or with Max. Seriously, never...until now. I am in love with the emotion captured in these shots. If you need a photographer please call this amazingly talented camera whisperer. She lives in Tampa but will travel ;)

Be still my heart...

All in Good Time...

1. The bathroom is still unfinished. The electrical was completed today but I still need tile. I am waiting on a quote, hopefully it will arrive in my inbox tonight.  I hate only having one toilet.

2. I painted stripes. Yes, I did it. I will reveal as soon as I can get the artwork completed.

3. The backyard is complete. All I need to do is take pictures. I will probably wait until Saturday after the yard is mowed.

4. I have a new favorite drink & designer. I promise to spotlight both.

A Mother’s Prayer for Its Child” (from Bossy Pants) by Tina Fey

tina

“First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half and stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris Wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen. Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, for childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers and the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.”

Happy Memorial Day and My New Umbrella

IMG_5718

Yes, the patio is still a work in progress. I have been so busy lazy lately and the last thing I want to do is pick up a paint brush. But in order for the patio to be done, the back portion must be painted. I hate painting chippy, dirty concrete.

I ordered an umbrella to help bring some additional shade to the back area. I can use the umbrella with my table or I can move it out with my stand to another section of the backyard. I am still looking at some additional patio furniture / garden furniture to complete my look.  One bonus of blogging is that the fine people at www.everypatiofurniture.com sent me my umbrella for a blog post exchange.  So don't ever let them tell you blogging is not lucrative.  I think between the 3 years I have been blogging, I am averaging 1/2 cent a day on my monetary return but my return from the heart has been priceless!

So, if you are looking for a large market type umbrella (great price $49!!), you will love the one I ordered. It is on a wood pole with a very easy rope pulley system.  The umbrella opens very gracefully and gives you two different settings of openness.  I also love the neutral color!

Here is the link to the umbrella I ordered: http://www.everypatiofurniture.com/Bond-9-Market-Umbrella-Natural-Y99151.htm

Be sure to check out http://www.everypatiofurniture.com/ for all kinds of great patio and garden furniture ideas. I promise to get off my lazy butt & paint!

Have a great holiday-
XOXO

Guns and Overcoming Fear (and Stupid)

I am afraid of guns. There I said it. I am not proud of the fact that I am afraid but I just am. My fear doesn't come from some kind of personal trauma but more the kind that comes from the unknown.  After contemplating my fear and the root of the issue, I believe that I am afraid of not knowing how to use a gun, God forbid, I ever need to use a gun. You see, I have a gun in my home. I can't tell you if it's loaded or if the safety is on. I can't even tell you where the key is to unlock the box it is in.  Now, that's just stupid and I don't do stupid.

So this is what I did to overcome stupid.

logo_banner

I signed up for their Women Only Training Class. Fourteen women came together to learn. Some had their own guns & ammunition, some (like me) rented everything. Some of the women had handled a gun before, others (like me) had not.

P2280054

We spent 45 minutes in a class environment. We learned safety. We learned how to grip a gun.

P2280044

We learned how to stand with a gun.

P2280048

We learned how to load a gun.

P2280046

We asked questions. We laughed.  I wanted to cry. Seriously, I was that afraid.

P2280057

The next half of the class was spent at the indoor range. I wanted to leave. I was sweating. I wore platform pumps and had this really big ring on my finger. What was I thinking? I was miserable.

It took me a moment before I could pull the trigger. I hate the element of surprise and I was anticipating the gun to act violently towards me. I did not want it to be loud.  I did not want to look stupid.

I did it. I pulled the trigger and then again and again.  Was it my Laura Croft moment? No. Did I start singing some AC/DC song in my head because I was a re-born bad-ass? No.

When the night was finally over, I spent a few moments in my car reflecting. I was proud of myself and I was going to continue with my training until I was comfortable.

Just a note: This is not a post on politics, ethics, religion or whatever soapbox you would like to stand on.  This is a post about an incredible company (360 Tactical), that is run by an incredible staff (thank you Justin). This is a post about me.  This is a post encouraging you to overcome fear & stupid, whatever your fear & stupid might be.

I will write a part 2 next week.  Max rocked the Zombie Clowns!

Dog Parks

IMG_0678

I believe every city should have a dog park. So every once in a while, I load Daisy up in the back-end of the SUV and we head out to PetSafe headquarters. These people know how to rock the dog park!
IMG_0682

PetSafe Village is over 1 acre of fully fenced doggie fun with a natural pond, water fountain, picnic tables, benches, pavilion and a full agility course.

IMG_0687

The dog park is also part of a much bigger project, corporate headquarters for PetSafe. So not only is the business run from this location but you have an awesome doggie day camp, pet grooming, training, boarding (with 24/7 drop off & pick up) & online reservations.
